History History
Tightly bred to Ch. Colonsay Kelly's Eye, Dutchess was bred in 1964 with an inbreeding coefficient of 26.8% and was imported by Barbara Fournier of Bethway. She was 3rd generation Bethway with one littermate and 5 full siblings. Her littermate and 2 of her five full siblings earned their championship. Primarily used on Bethway bitches, Dutchess' sire produced 1 champion among her 8 paternal half siblings. One of her two maternal half siblings earned her title. Dutchess was bred 5 times, all to champion stud dogs (3 times to Ch. Bethway Aramis, once to Ch. Bethway Pensum and once to Ch. Newry Red Fox, a Bethway bred dog). With the exception of one mating that produced two puppies, she produced only singleton litters and among the 6 offspring from these matings she produced 4 champions. Dutchess earned the distinction of winning the first Norwich Terrier Club 6-12 Month Drop Ear Sweepstakes class in 1965 out of 7 present in the class. At the time, there was no Best In Sweepstakes and the classes were divided by ear carriage but not by sex.
