History History
With an inbreeding coefficient of 16.7% Cobbler was bred in 1947 by Mrs. A. Blewitt and owned by Mrs. D.M. Spencer. Although he had 1 littermate (who did not earn her championship) he had no full siblings. Of his 9 half siblings on his sire's side and 6 on his dam's side there were no champions. He was bred 11 times producing a total of 36 get of which 3 earned their championship. Among the 3 breedings to two different champion bitches, there were no champions produced. Cobbler was Best Of Breed, 1948 Specialty, repeating his win as a champion in 1949. He produced winners for Port Fortune, Kedron and Pinch, his Colonsay breeding suiting the American dogs he served. In the beginning of the modern era, although the overall quality of drop ears became more uniform, the breed seemed to lack as sound and typical an individual as "The Cobbler". Cobbler's blood at Castle Point was greatly valued
