Mrs. K. Smithwick. was among the first to intentionally breed black and tan drop ear Norwich. Her first black and tan she bought as a puppy; he was “Rednor Gay Caballero”, a son of Red Wraith out of Jubilant of Shervage. When the puppy arrived, Mr. Smithwick, expected to see a red puppy when he opened the basket. Upon seeing a black and tan he said ‘Holy Smoke” and that’s how he got his name of Hunston Holy Smoke. Smoker sired Hunston Hooch also black and tan. Smoker was bred in 1955 with a lower inbreeding coefficient of only 12.8%. He had 3 littermates, none of which earned their title and had no full siblings. None of his 26 paternal half siblings earned their title, nor did any of the 8 maternal half siblings. Smoker influenced the breed with 33 litters producing 96 get.
